OVERALL GOAL: To assist policy-makers and other industry stakeholders to develop national beef industries and trade in a way that improves the livelihoods of small farmers and other chain actors. This did so through the analysis of detailed industry data, and a beef- and region-specific trade model to forecast and simulate developments in the beef sector in Southeast Asia, China and Australia.
IMPLEMENTING AGENCY AND DONOR: The project is funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). The project is implemented by The University of Queensland (project management and coordination with Timor Leste, Indonesia and China) and HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation (coordination in the Mekong countries of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam).
KEY PARTNERS: Key partners include government departments and researchers in the seven countries of Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Thailand and Vietnam. In addition, the project brings together and gathers input from agribusiness, development, animal health and farm agencies throughout the region, including Australia
