Roundtable discussion on current issues and future research directions for Development of the Cattle and Beef Industry in South-East Asia and China
From 10th to 11th August 2017, the ongoing project ” Developing a trade model and information network for the cattle and beef trade sector of South East Asia and China” organized the Roundtable discussion on current issues and future research directions for Development of the Cattle and Beef Industry in South-East Asia and China. The workshop was greatly attended, with almost 40 participants, who are researchers, policy markets, private companies in South-East Asia and China.

The objectives of the workshop were:
– To present the results of SRA on trade model and information network for the cattle and beef trade sector of Southeast Asia and China, including the development of Asia Beef SPE Model – – To give participants an overview of the use of Asia Beef Model developed under the SRA with a concentration on using the model for policy analysis and market trade scenarios;
– To get updated information on cattle/beef industry development in Vietnam, the region and China from a government and private sector perspective.
– To introduce the basic framework of the new project: AGB/2016/196 “Sustainable and Inclusive Development of the Cattle and Beef Industry in South-East Asia and China”
– To discuss and agree on priorities and focus for future research activities from a national and regional perspective and from government and private sector priorities.
The workshop was co-organised by Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, University of Queensland, HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation/Centre for Rural Economy Development (CRED) and funded by ACIAR.
